Introduction
Dementia affects memory, thinking and daily life, but it is not an inevitable part of ageing. While some risk factors cannot be changed, healthy lifestyle choices and managing conditions such as high blood pressure and diabetes may help reduce the risk.
Although dementia cannot always be prevented, staying physically, mentally and socially active, eating well, and avoiding smoking and excessive alcohol can support brain health. Early recognition of symptoms and prompt medical advice can also improve care and support.
