Alcohol-related liver disease remains one of the most preventable yet dangerously underestimated health challenges worldwide. Many people consume alcohol socially or occasionally without understanding its long-term consequences on the liver, the organ responsible for detoxifying the body, processing nutrients, and supporting metabolic health. Unfortunately, the early stages of alcohol-induced liver damage often go unnoticed until the condition becomes severe. This silent progression is particularly concerning in ageing populations, where the body’s ability to heal and metabolize substances naturally declines.
To increase awareness and provide culturally relevant health education, Ageing Lifestyle in Blacks and Asians (ALIBSA) is hosting a highly informative live webinar titled “The Silent Impact: Understanding Alcohol’s Effect on Your Liver.” This session is designed to empower individuals, families, caregivers, and community health advocates with accurate information and practical strategies for protecting liver health, especially within Black and Asian communities that often face distinct health disparities.
Why This Webinar Matters
Research shows that members of Black and Asian populations can be at greater risk for late-stage diagnosis of liver disease due to cultural stigma, limited access to specialized care, and lower community-level awareness. Additionally, alcohol tolerance and metabolic responses can vary across populations, creating unique medical and social considerations. This webinar addresses these gaps by combining expert clinical insights with a culturally sensitive approach.

Led by an Expert Gastroenterologist
Attendees will benefit from the expertise of Dr Anand Venkata Reddy FRCP (Lon.), FRCP (Edin.), a Consultant Gastroenterologist at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Gateshead. Dr Reddy brings years of clinical experience and extensive expertise. In the webinar, he will explore:
- How the liver processes alcohol and what happens when intake exceeds healthy limits
- The gradual progression from fatty liver to inflammation, scarring, and liver failure
- Misconceptions about “moderate” drinking and how age affects alcohol tolerance
- Warning signs that should never be ignored
- Prevention strategies rooted in evidence-based lifestyle changes
His presentation will be followed by discussion and insights aimed at helping attendees take actionable steps to safeguard their wellbeing.
A Community-Driven Health Conversation
The session will be hosted by Dr Faatiqah Niyi-Odumosu, Founder and Director of ALIBSA, alongside co-host Alosh K Jose. Together, they will guide the conversation in a supportive, inclusive, and culturally aware environment. ALIBSA remains committed to improving health outcomes among Black and Asian adults through education, advocacy, and accessible community engagement.
